PETN is a white crystalline substance which melts at 140 141c. PETN usually forms in hexagonal shape
crystals, which pours easily. PETN is practically insoluble in water but completely soluble in Acetone and Ethyl
Acetate/ alcohol and completely non-hygroscopic.
The chemical stability of PETN is very high and exceeds that of all other nitric acid esters. The symmetrical
structure of the PETN distinguishes it from the rest of its family members. One excellent chemical property of
the PETN that, it cannot be destroyed/ chemically decomposed.
PETN is used commercially for manufacturing of detonating cord and all types of detonator as a base charge
